Tert butyl peroxybenzoate is an organic compound with the molecular formula C11H14O3, and is a colorless to slightly yellow liquid. Slightly aromatic odor. Insoluble in water, soluble in organic solvents. Tert butyl peroxybenzoate is widely used as an initiator in polymerization processes such as ethylene, styrene, propylene, vinyl acetate, diallyl phthalate, and isobutene. In the curing process of unsaturated polyester, it is widely used in molding processes such as SMC, BMC, DMC, etc. At the same time, it can also be combined with some more active materials such as MEKP, BPO, or TBPO to form a two-component curing system for application. Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Keep away from sources of fire and heat, and prevent direct sunlight. The storage temperature should not exceed 30 ℃. Sealed packaging. It should be stored separately from reducing agents and alkalis, and avoid mixing storage. Equip with corresponding types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment. The storage area should be equipped with suitable materials to contain leaked materials. Vibration, impact, and friction are prohibited.

Synthesis method:

(1) The synthesis of tert butanol sulfate involves adding tert butanol to a reaction vessel, then slowly adding 70% sulfuric acid while stirring, maintaining a temperature below 30 ℃, and conducting the reaction while stirring. The tert butanol sulfate generated by the reaction is reserved for later use.

(2) The synthesis of tert butyl peroxide involves adding hydrogen peroxide to a reaction vessel, cooling it to 10-20 ℃ while stirring, and then adding the prepared tert butanol sulfate at a faster rate, stirring for 2 hours, and allowing it to settle and separate into layers. After separating the water layer, neutralize it with magnesium carbonate solution to a pH of 6-7, and wash it at low temperature to obtain tert butyl peroxide.

(3) The synthesis of initiator C involves adding a 30% potassium hydroxide (or sodium hydroxide) solution and benzoyl chloride to the prepared tert butyl peroxide under vigorous stirring for reaction. After the reaction is complete, the product is washed and dried to obtain the finished product.

The hydrogen chloride produced during the production process can be absorbed and concentrated with potassium hydroxide to obtain the by-product potassium chloride.

The synthesis of tert butyl peroxybenzoate involves adding 30% sodium hydroxide to a reaction vessel containing tert butyl hydroperoxide, adding an appropriate amount of water, and cooling it with frozen salt water below -5 ℃ to make it a paste like substance below 25 ℃. Then, a certain amount of benzoyl chloride is added dropwise and the temperature is maintained below 30 ℃, while controlling the dripping rate. After adding, keep warm for several hours and maintain the pH value of the solution in the kettle between 10-14. After the reaction is complete, stop stirring and let it stand for layering. Release the waste liquid from the lower layer; The upper oil layer is washed and separated with 10% sodium carbonate, followed by 3% sodium hydroxide, and then washed three times with clean water and once with magnesium sulfate solution. Finally, the oil layer is placed in a storage tank and dried overnight with anhydrous magnesium sulfate. The resulting clear colorless or light yellow oily liquid is the product.
