Advantages of Unsaturated Polyester Resin

1. Good process performance

Good processability is a major advantage of unsaturated polyester resin. At room temperature, different curing systems can be used to solidify and form, and at normal pressure, the color is light. Therefore, light colored or multi colored products can be produced, and various measures can be taken to improve their process performance.

2. The cured resin has good comprehensive performance

The mechanical properties of unsaturated polyester resin are between epoxy resin and phenolic resin: its electrical properties, corrosion resistance, and aging performance are all valuable, and there are various special resins to meet the needs of different applications

3. Wide range of raw material sources and low prices

The main disadvantages of unsaturated polyester resin are:

1. The volume shrinkage rate is high during curing, so this should be fully considered during molding, otherwise the quality of the product will be affected. At present, progress has been made in the development of low shrinkage polyester resins, mainly through the addition of thermoplastic polymers such as polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, polymethyl methacrylate, or diallyl phthalate.

2. Unsaturated polyester resin has relatively poor heat resistance, and even some grades with good heat resistance have a heat deformation temperature of only 120 ℃. The majority of resins have a heat deformation temperature in the range of 60-70 ℃

C) When it is formed, it has a strong odor (styrene) and irritation.
